Stevie-Jae has been a student and teacher of yoga for over eleven years in Australia and the United Kingdom. She is an advocate for the benefits of yoga and mindfulness. Her journey into wellness was sparked by attending yoga classes to stretch, relax and de-stress. Her lust for learning and interest in helping others has been the driving force for the development of Zing Wellbeing.
After over 12 years of ballet, physical fitness was a major component of her life. She began her yoga journey while attending gym classes around her full-time work as a high school biology and science teacher in 2005. Vinyasa Hatha yoga provided her with a restorative, whole body approach to health and fitness. As the demands of her career increased, her focus shifted from maintaining physical fitness to a more holistic approach to her well-being. She is well acquainted with the demands of work, family and making time for herself. Yoga transformed her life allowing her to build strength, flexibility and cultivate mindfulness. After experiencing the benefits for herself, she decided to train as a yoga teacher to allow her to help others.
She began with a Level 1 (350 hour) Vinyasa Hatha yoga teacher training in 2013. After that she specialised with a Prenatal and Postnatal Teacher Training through Bliss Baby Yoga – a renowned prenatal specialist training course by Ana Davis. Since completing her Level 1 training she has completed Core Strength Vinyasa training with Sadi Nardini. She has successfully balanced additional yoga study with her full-time teaching career. She incorporates her extensive anatomy and physiology knowledge into her classes. Stevie-Jae believes the techniques taught in her classes can be used both on and off the yoga mat. She feels yoga gives a reprieve from the stresses of everyday life where one often has to juggle family, work and social commitments. Her interest is in stress relief and mindfulness and the applications of such techniques in everyday life.
Along with her yoga studies, she has completed a Masters of Education and postgraduate research at the University of Queensland into the benefits of yoga and meditation for stress relief. She has found that benefits are experienced after just one class.
She began her classes by hiring a space in Scarborough and running weekly evening classes in 2013. This progressed to renovating a space with her husband on their semi-rural property in Excelsior Park Morayfield. After a year of plastering, painting and trying her hand and construction in the evenings and weekends, she opened her yoga space in October 2014.
Stevie-Jae experienced the benefits of practising yoga during her pregnancy and post-partum recovery in 2015. She used the Hypnobirthing Australia™ techniques for the birth of her son, and she is thrilled to be offering Hypnobirthing classes to help mothers prepare for a positive birth. She decided to become a childbirth educator because she believes the Hypnobirthing Australia™ course provides expecting families with a positive mindset for pregnancy and birth. She could not have managed her delivery with the complications she had without her prenatal yoga experience, active birthing techniques and hypnobirthing. She has completed her Children’s Yoga Teacher Training (2016) and has taught mindfulness and yoga to children from kindergarten to Year 12.
She is currently working for the School of Education writing mindfulness programs for students and stress-management exercises for teachers. She has started working on her PhD focusing on well-being in the workplace. The classes she offers are not due to monetary gain but to help others experience the benefits of yoga, meditation, and mindfulness. She donates some of the proceeds to local charities to help support those in need.
Her philosophy and core beliefs focus on: mindfulness, education, community, empowerment, respect and compassion. Maintaining professionalism, kindness and safety to the highest standards in her personalised classes.
